Pomp and Show

The sheer revelry of the festival is a major draw for people. To begin with, the rockets are ornately decorated and the most beautiful bamboo rocket that flies the highest also gets an award. The streets are lined with people and their awe inspiring floats depicting various nuances of Thai culture. Street performances and plays take place much to the delight of the crowds. Traditional costumes can be seen in vibrant shades and rich fabric. Great cost and detailing goes into the outfits that people wear for this event. Much dancing and singing follows in the streets as the teams bring out their precious rockets. The smallest rocket is at least nine meters in length and it uses up 20 to 25 kilograms of gun powder!

Organisation

If you thought this festival was a localised affair with no prior planning, you may have to think again! This festival is planned months in advance with a carefully chosen committee to chair meetings in each village. The safety measures are amongst the biggest concerns that are discussed and put in place, even as the prizes for the best rockets and most entertaining teams are decided and accumulated. The launch of the rockets is an event that is planned for the outskirts of the village, in the fields, so as to avoid any accidents.
